Don’t Ignore State Parks For a Day Out

Since we have a trip to Disney World planned for September this year, we’re on a bit of a vacation freeze for the next few months.

So I’ve been looking for more local things suitable for day trips and with the ability to both entertain the kids, let +Jenn Irving lounge around and sun herself and me do a bit of hiking and photography.

I’ve got to say I’m really impressed by the number of State Parks in the area (particularly in Maryland). I had no idea there were so many within 2 hours of us.

Rick Perry has spent all the money our Texas Parks could have used. FDR created them and GOP hopless is destroying them.

We really enjoy all the parks and trails in our area. My husband loves all the camping options.

we regularly make day outings to our local county parks. Within half an hour of us, there’s paddle boats, horse back riding, ice skating, two pools, and miles of bike trails. There’s not much in the way of hiking, although there are at least three public gardens.

Not bad for Union County, NJ :)

I can only imagine what you would find somewhere with terrain or trees.

They’re not nearly as grand as some of the state parks, but it’s cool to be able to drive 15 minutes in one direction and go horseback riding, or ten in another and go fishing or out in some paddle boats and have a picnic, especially when all in (gas, food, etc…) it’s like $20-$30 for a family of three for a day’s entertainment.

Although to be fair, $16 and a half hour on the train each way, and we have all of Manhattan at our disposal, so I guess we’re kinda spoiled. :)

Nora, that is just one more reason it is important to support them with our money and our patronage.
