Doctor Who Cosplay — Genderswap Edition!

There’s always been a lot of genderswap going on in cosplay circles. Not least because a lot of the main sci-fi characters are male and a lot of the cosplayers are female.

But I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a large collection of gender swapped Doctors before.

Gender-swapped Doctors are our new favorite form of Doctor Who cosplay
Last weekend’s Gallifrey One convention featured some incredible Doctor Who cosplay, including TARDIS dresses, Dalek dresses, and an army of Amy Ponds and Rose Tylers.

What was the old favorite form?

    How cute are they? :)

I find it interesting how some choose to feminise the costume and others masculinise (is that a word?) themselves instead.

+Eoghann Irving now that I’ve had some coffee and read the article… I really enjoyed it. It was very insightfully written and brings up some excellent points about the role of women in the show. I’m not a Whovian, but we’re slowly working our way through the Eccleston series. One of my absolute favorite things about it is the fact that Rose wears jeans and tennis shoes… things she could actually run in.

+Katey Springle Lempka Then you’re going to hate Amy Pond

  6. February 24, 2012 at 09:26

LOL.. well her costume is somewhat less practical certainly.

No one can hate Amy Pond The Girl who waited is invincible!

I really like Amy Pond. But if we’re judging purely by the practicality of clothes then I think it’s a tie between Donna and Martha. Amy comes in last place on that one. :D

I may be a bit sensitive when it comes to that character :-)
Awww and I hate to say it..but yes. Running in short skirts my not be the best idea but she only wears them from time to time!

I thought the article also made an excellent point about the amount of work it takes to be “feminine.” Do the Doctor’s more feminine companions have a make-up room stashed in the TARDIS? Complete with blow dryer, curling iron, flat iron, wax strips, etc.? :) (Not to pick on Doctor Who, pretty much every show that ever has women somewhere other than their own home for more than a couple of days ignores this little detail.)

Well actually +Katey Springle Lempka.. yeah they do. :D

They each have their own rooms and there’s a giant wardrobe of clothes.

I’m not making this up. :D

  12. February 24, 2012 at 10:01

They even have a swimming pool or two :-)

  13. February 24, 2012 at 10:29

Hahahah, nice. I did know the TARDIS was big inside, but wow… a pool, huh? :)

  14. February 24, 2012 at 10:33

The TARDIS is theoretically infinite inside and capable of re-shaping itself so yup. Whatever you need is there.
