Well that was a short and unsuccessful experiment. I had the comments open to the public for about two days and all I got out of it was an increase in spam and a handful of people with an attitude.
About the only plus is that once again humanity has confirmed my total contempt for it.
They’re locked down again. Only those in my extended circles can post. Keeps the number I need to block down to a reasonable level.

spam spam spam :p
I culled my circles today. Liberating.
That stinks. I am fortunate to not have that issue, yet.
it’s all too much work.
I’m really having second thoughts about the whole google plus thing, not that I was an ideal candidate for long term usage or anything
I completely understand the attitude bit. Spam as well. We open the posts to public hoping to connect with others in a good way, but there will always be one that messes up the entire thread.
I still get a lot out of it. But I made the mistake of believing people who said I was missing out by locking the comments do extended.
Clearly I am not.
I meet all the people I choose to follow back through my public posts . I find te spam less now that a couple of months ago.
I have been supremely lucky. I haven’t had much of a spam problem, but I publicly excoriate those who choose to spam me. Come to think of it, I do that to people I catch putting crap on the windshield of my car too. I throw water on proselytizers that come to my door. wow, I’m pretty vengeful sometimes. Perhaps I should think about this..
nahhhhh.…it works.
The posts remain public, it’s just the comments I’ve locked down. Since it’s extended circles I’d guess there’s probably still over 100,000 people who are able to comment.
Haven’t had that issue myself. Perhaps it’s just happening to the popular people (flashbacks of high school insecurities come to the fore sigh)
I’m still small enough that I don’t tend to get the crazies or the spammers. But here, have some Monty Python — Spam .
and now to something completely different …
