DC Announces Animated Version of The Dark Knight Returns

This is a big one. DC have been adapting some of their best regarded material into direct to DVD animated form. But The Dark Knight Returns is a bit different. In importance, in the nature of its story and in its size.

But it’s happening. It will be split into two movies (the animated DVDs usually run to about 70 or so minutes) which should help keep the story at least somewhat complete.

The first part comes out later in 2012 and the second in 2013. Peter Weller (Robocop) has been cast to voice Batman and the scripts were written by Bob Goodman.

The Dark Knight Returns is still my favorite Batman story of all time so I’m curious to see how faithful the adaptations are.
