Yes. Before its second weekend has even finished The Avengers has passed a billion dollars in worldwide ticket sales and an equally impressive $373 million in domestic.
That puts it according to BoxOfficeMojo.com at #3 for Marvel brand movies (behind only Spider-man and Spider-man 2 which are likely to fall by Monday at this rate).
The Dark Knight’s $533 million is already within sight. And it’s already ranked 11th for Worldwide all time grossing movies.
Not only can we expect a sequel but a whole slew more Marvel movies and I’d say this along has justified Disney’s purchase of Marvel a few years ago. Can you imagine the merchandise this thing must be pushing?

wow.
Still haven’t seen it yet. Sigh. Anyone want to babysit?
we watched it yesterday — couldn’t find a sit — - great movie
Going tonight to check out the awesomeness.
We’re going to try for a Wednesday matinée, ourselves.
Disney really has to be beside themselves. They’ve been struggling with boys’ merch for a while (Cars brings in bucketloads, but nothing else is nearly that strong), so this addresses a weakness in their market dominance quite nicely.
everyone clapping after the movie
+Brittany Constable I was trying to scroll in the notification window and accidentally flagged your comment. I undid it, but I hope it didn’t affect anything… o_O
Going to see it again next week =)
IMAX this time
I’ve seen it twice. my oldest son saw it twice. And, my youngest saw it once. I have several friends who have seen it twice. and, one friend who is planning to it a third time at an IMAX theater. ridiculous!
best superhero movie ever made
I hope the lesson Hollywood takes from this is that the audience wants well written stories with well written characters.
