Is The Console Dying? No But It May Finally Be Changing

The info­graphic at the link below high­lights the recent fall in con­sole and con­sole game sales as well as the rise of mobile gaming.

It doesn’t how­ever address the sig­nif­i­cant fac­tor that the con­soles avail­able for most of the year were around 6 years old and likely most peo­ple who want one have it by this point.

But the rise of mobile gam­ing is a sig­nif­i­cant fac­tor. And I think it will impact con­soles within the next 5 years.

Because we’re rapidly approach­ing a point where a mobile phone will have the CPU and GPU power to run PC games. Plus they already have the cabil­ity to con­nect to the TV.

Add some sort of dock­ing sta­tion and sud­denly you’re not talk­ing about mobile gam­ing vs. con­sole gam­ing. You’re just talk­ing about gaming.
