It’s About Power

Any time the old rape debate comes up again (as it seems to have this week) I am some­what sur­prised at people’s ignorance.

I’m not talk­ing about what’s right or wrong here. That should be obvious.

I’m talk­ing about the fact so many peo­ple still think rape is about sex.

No. It’s about power. The way a woman dresses, how attrac­tive she is or isn’t. These are not the fac­tors that induce rape. The research is pretty com­pre­hen­sive on this stuff and hon­estly all you have to do is do the most cur­sory sur­vey of the peo­ple who have been raped to see this.

Oppor­tu­nity is a fac­tor nat­u­rally… but looks and cloth­ing… not even slightly.
