Public Shaming… Generally Not A Good Strategy

Bizarrely the per­son mak­ing the argu­ment that obese peo­ple should be shamed, seems to be under the impres­sion they are not currently.

Of course he also seems to be equat­ing smok­ing with unhealthy eat­ing which seems quite the stretch.

Peo­ple gen­er­ally want to fit in so the­o­ret­i­cally chang­ing pub­lic opin­ions could affect people’s behav­ior but pub­lic sham­ing is more likely to make peo­ple dou­ble down than change.
