To hear it told these days you would think that it was all about protecting the people from a corrupt government, right?
Not according to this article. Both the original draft of the amendment and the reasons for the change shed a very different light on the situation.
Of course I don’t believe we should be bound by the intent of people long since dead anyway. So it’s a moot point in my book. But interesting never the less.
