Tarantino Really Doesn’t Want To Talk About Gun Violence

Tarantino really squirmed in this interview when the subject of gun violence came up. It’s unfortunate he couldn’t provide a more eloquent response.

I find myself with very mixed feelings on this subject. On the one hand I think it is important that we distinguish between reality and fiction. Fiction (of any sort) should not be limited by notions of what if someone is triggered by?

On the other hands I actually believe that Hollywood is a major player in US gun culture. Not in triggering these school shootings, but in making gun ownership seem cool, sexy and manly.

The NRA’s line that it takes a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun could have been said by John Wayne or Clint Eastwood or Stallone or Vin Diesel.

Hollywood wasnt around for the 1600s 1700s and 1800s in the US/America, guns/firearms have been a part of our culture a long long time.

I’m not sure that really negates the argument at all.

I don’t know about “sexy” and “cool” but “manly”, most likely.
Movies heavily “focused” on guns definitely make people a lot more aware, especially if it’s a movie set in or near modern times.

And to the last sentence, instead we got: ” Hasta la vista, baby!

I really think that there needs to be a prominent writer to step in and refute that “It takes a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun” bullshit.  Because any writer will tell you that every bad guy sees himself as the good guy.
