Why Do Nerds Have Such A Problem With Their Image

People are up in arms again. This time it’s Big Bang Theory, or rather a promo for BBT that’s been running. Apparently it promises that the female cast of the show will go Where No Woman Has Gone Before or in other words into the comic shop.

Now clearly this is just some promo exaggerating because the female cast have pretty much all been in that comic shop previous. But it was more than enough to provoke nerd rage on the internet (again).

The thing is, this really isn’t about Big Bang Theory (I’m sure someone will post about how the show isn’t funny, though personally I find it hysterical). Nor is it about the fact that society deals in stereotypes of what nerds are or that sitcoms amplify that stereotype.

It’s about a self image problem. If this stuff is upsetting you, then you are far too worried about what other people think about you. Which is after all a really bad way to prop up your ego.

Nor is huddling in groups on the internet slapping each other on the back and saying how much better than normals you are. No… you really aren’t. You’re pretty much the same on average.

And no, I don’t care to hear about how badly people treated you as a kid. Nerds aren’t the only people who get bullied.

Just do what you enjoy and stop being a drama queen about it.
