I Don’t Do It For You

There is a pur­pose to every­thing I post or write. I don’t do things with­out a pur­pose. But I don’t think the pur­pose is what a lot of peo­ple think it is.

At a cer­tain fun­da­men­tal level I am a very self­ish per­son. Every­thing I post or write is for me.

I don’t post the geeky pic­tures for you. I do it because I like them and it pleases me to share that image wider.

I don’t post the stats posts for you. All the num­ber crunch­ing, I do that for fun. I find it relax­ing. And some­times it gives me answers I don’t expect.

I don’t post my thoughts on a sub­ject for you. I do it because it helps to clar­ify my thoughts. I don’t care if you agree with me or not. I don’t care whether you change your mind or not.

I don’t write about the things that irri­tate me for you. I’m not ask­ing for a solu­tion. I just find vent­ing therapeutic.

I’m not writ­ing A His­tory of Sci­ence Fic­tion for you. It’s a purely per­sonal project that I aban­don for months at a time if the mood doesn’t strike me. It exists sim­ply because I find the sub­ject inter­est­ing and it’s a way for me to explore it.

I don’t write fic­tion for you. I have an idea that I want to explore. That’s prob­a­bly why I never fin­ish stuff. I don’t really care if any­one sees it.

I don’t post my pho­tos for you. I like hav­ing the stored for my own use.

I’m not ask­ing for your val­i­da­tion. I’m not ask­ing for your help. It’s not about you.

I’m not writ­ing this post for you.
