I’ve Plateaued

Before I start. I’m not upset by this, I don’t need any kind words about how the num­ber of fol­low­ers don’t mat­ter etc. I just find it inter­est­ing fol­low­ing these trends and try­ing to inter­pret them.

Cir­cle­Count has been track­ing me since Octo­ber 2011, when I had 1,802 fol­low­ers. A  num­ber I was quite sur­prised by.

I now have 19,400 fol­low­ers. A num­ber that baf­fles me still.

I’ve been hov­er­ing just above or just below 19,400 for the last two weeks. This is a change from my pre­vi­ous pat­tern of slow but steady growth for the pre­vi­ous 7 months or so. The ridicu­lous growth rates of the first 12 months being long gone.

So maybe I’ll never actu­ally hit 20K.

I attribute the change in part to my increas­ing dis­like for shared cir­cles and gen­eral avoid­ance of them, com­bined with a sig­nif­i­cant down­siz­ing of my own circles.

I don’t think it’s much of a loss because a good 18,000 of you have never so much as plussed one of my posts, never mind com­mented. So… you kinda don’t count anyway.

Oddly enough despite this I’ve had two of my most shared posts ever in the last week.
