Stop Me If You’ve Heard This Before

So there’s this com­pany with a great idea to launch a new mobile OS. It’s going to be open source and avail­able to any man­u­fac­turer who wants it.

But if you want the brand­ing, you need to meet some min­i­mum spec­i­fi­ca­tions. Don’t worry, they are minimum.

Worked great for Google right? But is this really going to be a win­ning strat­egy for Firefox?

What are they offer­ing that exist­ing OSes don’t?

    Really open soft­ware, as opposed to Android’s faux openness?

    As far as I know it will be fully open source just like the browser.

    Though i expect the man­u­fac­tur­ers will still lock down the phones.
