Veronica Mars Kickstarter Movie Projects Exceeds $1 Million On First Day!

Veronica Mars Kickstarter Movie Projects Exceeds $1 Million On First Day!

Wow! I knew there was a loyal fanbase for Veronica Mars, but $1,143,934 (and counting since the day isn’t over) on the first day. Is that some sort of Kickstarter record?

It also means that this, which apparently has the largest goal ever set for a project on Kickstarter is already half way to its goal with a month to go.

    Well… That’s a little crazy…

  2. March 13, 2013 at 15:50

Record goes to Torment (so far) 1.something in eight hours.

  3. March 13, 2013 at 15:51

I think that record may fall. These numbers are rising as I speak: $1,160,340 now.

  4. March 13, 2013 at 15:52

Correction, Veronica wins.  $1M in under 4 hours

  5. March 13, 2013 at 15:54

This low budget movie might not be so low after all…

  6. March 13, 2013 at 15:54

    Motherfucker.

Would a Firefly kickstarter actually meet the goal before it went live?

  7. March 13, 2013 at 15:55

$1,171,096.… it’s going up crazy fast.

  8. March 13, 2013 at 15:56

I want to contribute just for the t-shirt but I will probably never watch it.

  9. March 13, 2013 at 16:02

Did the math a minute ago, the average donation is $69. I’m hard pressed to think of what I would pay $69 to fund, movie-wise, I mean. Those are some dedicated fans.

  10. March 13, 2013 at 16:04

Several have contributed $200 or more

  11. March 13, 2013 at 16:04

    Which is even crazier.

  12. March 13, 2013 at 16:12

And the fact that the majority of the donors are probably Americans, since there’s only one award level that isn’t marked with “Ships within the US only.”

  13. March 13, 2013 at 16:12

People happily spend $69 to go to a concert, why not spend $50 to get a DVD of a movie you want to see, along with the t-shirt, script PDF and behind the scenes updates?

It honestly seems like a good deal to me.

  14. March 13, 2013 at 16:15

If this rate continues it may hit the $2 million goal before the day is over.

  15. March 13, 2013 at 16:16

    Looks like it!

  16. March 13, 2013 at 16:17

I’m seriously contemplating one of the levels that gets me a signed poster.

  17. March 13, 2013 at 16:28

It is insane to me that so many of the really high level limited things have gone so fast.

  18. March 13, 2013 at 16:29

Part of why I’ve only pledged for $10 so far is that I’m pretty sure they’re going to add in more perks later and I want to see what they are.

  19. March 13, 2013 at 16:32

I think if they break the $2 million barrier today we’re quickly going to see stretch goals. $2 million is really only TV episode level budget after all.

  20. March 13, 2013 at 16:34

:) I’m cheap so I don’t go to concerts and I think paying more than $40 for that is crazy too. So that’s where I’m coming from. Hey, if people want to get this done, good for them. I’m not really questioning that. Just trying to figure out what I would want made badly enough to part with that kind of money.

  21. March 13, 2013 at 16:39

Well I’ve easily spent more than $50 to enjoy a restaurant meal with my wife before…

I happily spend $300 on phones and computers. Hell I’m paying $80 a month for Dish Network. $50 doesn’t buy a lot of luxuries these days.

  22. March 13, 2013 at 16:43

Exactly. It’s all a matter of preference and priorities.

  23. March 13, 2013 at 16:46

+Eoghann Irving i find the lack of comment functions on your newest posts disturbing. ;)

  24. March 13, 2013 at 16:47

The only locked posts are the Sci Fi Battle Royale ones +Olivio Sarikas. And that’s deliberate because it’s a re-share from a discussion in my SciFi Community.

  25. March 13, 2013 at 16:47

Oh, they are community posts. Didn´t see that.

  26. March 13, 2013 at 17:00

    I’m in…besides, I need a new t-shirt

My daughter made converts out of the whole family when this show was in early re-runs…great writing…kept you guessing

We even made a “pilgrimage” to the location that fronted for the Mars’ apartment building one time when we were in San Diego (don’t say it)  :-)

Quirky show…played really well in episode order via DVD

  27. March 13, 2013 at 18:00

And now it’s passed $1.5 million. Watching the number climb is strangely addicting.

  28. March 13, 2013 at 21:07

    And there goes $2 million…
